Veni Vidi Vici: From Russia with Love at the C.I.A.

The Bookshop Guru

Two and nine make twenty-nine. I was doing drugs at twenty-nine. The grass turned greener and I became a sinner. The message is the code. The code is in the book they call the Bible. I come and go on the wind that is my shadow. I seek no surrender for I shall win the battle. Two and nine make twenty-nine the code is in the Bible.

There is an old saying, which programmers like me, like to use about cryptography, you can crack the code, but, can you understand the message. You may think you do, that is almost guaranteed. The question is, are you certain?

Not a Penny More, When I Did Not Have a Penny in My Pocket

The Bookshop Guru

I woke one day and I was broke. You see I suffer from what they used to call, back in the old days, manic depression, but today's buzz word is bipolar. And one of the characteristics of bipolar disorder is you have very little control sometimes about how you spend your hard earned money. It is hard earned, when you have not got any. You become a spending junkie and the only rehab available is going broke.

Luckily, I found a way out of my predicament, it was not easy, but what is, right? Read my story in my latest book “It’s Never Too Late” you will be surprised how it will inspire you. Oh, by the way, when you have read the book pass it on to a friend to read, it’s always nice to inspire someone else.

The Wisdom of the Past

The Bookshop Guru

I could list many wise men that have walked this earth. But, it’s their wisdom that endures into the future.  The Buddha said, “Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth." And what we should remember is the truth never lies; only people do.

There is an old legend that is from the time of the first prophet so it is said. One day a man was walking through the desert and came upon a rabbit.

The rabbit said to the man, “Where do you go?”

The man replied, “I go to seek my fortune.”

“Fortune...what fortune?” the rabbit asked.

“The treasure of Asqanu, on the Mediterranean coast,” the man replied.

“Will you take me with you? I know this place,” the rabbit said.

“What good is a talking rabbit?” the man asked.

The rabbit replied, “What good is it that you are lost?”

The rabbit then said, “Man thinks, just because he can talk that he is smarter than the rabbit, but forgets he is an animal that is lost.”

The Tale of the Butterfly and the Bee

Listen to the beautiful Chinese song as you read.

It was a beautiful day you could not help but feel good about life. I sat upon a hill overlooking the Sussex downs. Able to appreciate the beauty of nature, the summer sun, and a gentle cool breeze, I relaxed and lay there thinking: I had been lucky to have made it this far in life.

As I made my way back to the car along a trail, I decided I would explore the nearby village. Walking down into the village, I saw an iron gate leading to a church, where much was overgrown with bramble along its path.

I could see a majestic old yew tree amongst the gravestones; it was massive, with many branches being supported by sturdy wood props. I would find out later, that the yew tree was over 1600 years old and still going strong.

The old yew was welcome shade from the summer sun as I gazed at the entrance to the church. The church was small and quaint, built from stone that had weathered countless storms, I thought. Apparently, some parts of the church were found to date back to the 12th century, I found out later.

Peering at the entrance to the church, I saw a darkened oak Norman shaped door that had a beauty of its own; the door had an age to the wood, you wondered what tales it could tell. Approaching the door that was beneath an open porch, I tried repeatedly to open it. Just as I was about to give up, the door opened if by magic, like a command open sesame.

Thinking: Someone had opened the door from the inside. I was shocked to see no one as I entered and saw the church was empty only one living soul, and that was me.

Strangely, I felt like someone wanted me to come in. Looking around the church, I was not spooked by the experience, but it did open my spiritual mind. It was then that I saw the butterfly and the bee. A beautiful stained glass window with the words of Jesus written upon it from the gospel of Thomas, Raise the stone, and thou will find me; cleave the wood, and there I am.

Many times, I have been back to the church that caught my imagination and gave me a feeling everything would be alright. Somehow, it was mystical and spiritual at the same time. Several months later, even in my darkest moments, I had the inspiration to paint a picture of the butterfly and bee stained glass window. And did I pray? Yes, I did.

A Poem: The Music of the Angels Came to Me

The Bookshop Guru
The Music of the Angels Came to Me

As the sun rose from the east, I saw a vision of Magdalene,
Who spoke the words of the legend, noli me tangere.
The music of the angels came to me.
And I stood there and listened to their song, Ave Marie.
Then I continued, along the golden path.
Whence, I came upon the stairway to heaven,
And heard the angels’ song, Ave Marie.
And there I stood and listened to their song as dusk began to dawn.

The Truth is Plain to See: The Wisdom of King Solomon

The Bookshop Guru

King Solomon spoke about the vanity of vanities and the vagaries of the female. So, have you ever wondered why King Solomon had so many wives? It is said that he had 700 wives and 300 concubines to choose from. Now, I do not know about you, but, I have enough trouble pleasing one, although three or four would be a welcome change, only joking? Clearly, he was confused and tempted fate at some point. God gave wisdom to King Solomon, but also much temptation. Therefore, the reason why charities exist today is because of the vanity of wanting more that is the guilt of materialism the circle is never complete.

King Solomon spoke about the vanity of existence. You see our logic (if you can call it logic) is out of balance with the natural order of life. We class ourselves as above the animal because that is the way we think, but we forget we are an animal. Therefore, our existence is terminal, the Mephistopheles of raising sea levelsclimate change, and the vanity of wanting more hasten our demise.
