Personal Identity Authentication: The Next Step in a Deck of Cards against the Terrorist Threat

Recent events such as the refugee crisis across the European Union should have promoted the debate on the need to introduce national identity cards (NID) in the UK. We can see the benefits of introducing NID’s as a means to protect resources such as National Health Service benefits against so called holiday day health cheats. Illegal immigration overnight would at last be a statistic you could trust. Would it stop terrorism, well, that’s debatable, but that’s not the reason why NID cards should be introduced the real reason is so obvious it's staring you in the face. That’s right Syd, it’s so simple. Think about it and read on and I will tell you.

Terrorism can implode numerous economic dimensions as it attempts to target its message, while world communities debate the effects of introducing identity cards (ID) cards as a measure for improving the security of states and their citizens. Liberal rights’ groups dispute the idea of national identity cards (NID) as diminishing the rights of privacy of the individual, while not safeguarding individuality against totalitarianism. Governments assert that the individual’s privacy will be protected by relevant data protection legislation specific to member states, although cross border data transfer remains an issue why most opponents of NID schemes regard this process as potentially affecting human rights. I disagree with this libertarian view based on the science of economics. To manage a complex organisation you need sophisticated systems to manage and plan ahead, otherwise, we would not need calendars.

The 9/11 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center has created a heightened sense of urgency in many governments while they attempt to answer the threat of terrorism. Some form of NID system is proposed as one measure in securing the internal security of many countries and the UK. The technology to administer these large ID authentication systems are proven, tested, and secure enough to process millions of authorisations. Effective counter measures are essential against terrorism, but the ethical use of information technology and the laws that protect against misuse are principles by which opponents argue ID cards are an ineffective measure when inappropriately insecure as recent cases show, but, that is not a reason not to have NID cards that's just poor management.

Recent events like the TalkTalk saga show how the protection of databases is essential and they should always be encrypted regardless of what interface it's interacting with. As Sun Tzu said, “Don’t court your own disaster.”

Moving on, running safe systems is not rocket science, it just takes common sense and always keeping in mind what will happen often does. The efficacy of NID cards is essential for the protection against fraud of state benefits it’s as simple as that.

The Million Dollar Question ( NFL Sunday Football Comic Diary) Week 7

The Bookshop Guru

The New York Jets face the New England Patriots  in Sunday’s live game. I fancy the Patriots to win the game. The consensus is around 69% in favour with the Jets (+8.5), and the bookies make the Patriots the favourite in this matchup. For me it’s all about the quarterbacks, Brady vs Fitzpatrick   and I prefer Brady by a mile. As they say, go with the inform team and that is the Patriots (5-0) with the best defence and defence wins games. Who invented the spread, the bookies, and the way they see it, as a + or – 8.5 point game? The head to head  over 10 games are 8-2 in the Patriots favour.  So, that probably means the Patriots to win the game, and to cover the (- 8.5) point spread. Whatever happens, I will enjoy the game!

The Cipher War

“If you do not expect it, you will not find the unexpected, for it is hard to find and difficult.” (Padmanabhan & Tuzhilin, 1999)

Currently, the world is in a race to outmanoeuvre the competition in the cipher war. Let me explain:  Governments and business organisations are busy trying to steal a march on their competitors by any means possible. Literally, the streets are paved with gold and the youth of today are at the steps of a new era in cross data referencing. Yes, that’s right, not cross dressing that’s an entirely different subject.

Today's new pirates are cross referencing your personal data and you are being profiled like a digital watch, only, you are unaware of much of this activity in cyberspace. But, the reality is it's happening right now!

Big business organisations have huge databases of personal data that can be cross referenced with numerous other databases, thereby, creating new profiling. Consider: How supermarkets with their loyalty cards work they hold huge amounts of data on your buying habits.

Useful information to the right people, well, the governments of this world are on the same page, if they have access legally or otherwise, to this personal information they want it now?

Yes, folks, the cipher war are as real as it gets. It’s happening right now! Here is how it works ~ suddenly you’re not the D.I.Y male who drinks reasonably large amounts of their favourite beverage on an average weekend. Now, you have suddenly started purchasing large amounts of sulphuric acid (and you’re not a plumber) in the past few weeks or even days and you have suddenly triggered a database somewhere and become a person of interest (POI) and a profile is generated. Do you get the picture?

Like it or not we all have profile numbers. This is the cipher war, the war of artificial intelligence (AI) controlling and generating access to huge quantities of personal data. Some of this data is naturally encrypted and some are not. It must be like a minefield, literally, anywhere you step these trolls (robots or bots) will have found your internet footprint, and so on and on. Now, do you get the picture?

Don’t be alarmed, because it’s happening whether you use the internet or not. Think about it? Every time you use your credit or debit card you generate data on a database somewhere and your profile is being simultaneously …….. . updated. The Quest for Artificial Intelligence Click Here

The Million Dollar Question ( NFL Sunday Football Comic Diary) Week 6

The Carolina Panthers face the Seattle Seahawks  in Sunday’s live game. I fancy the Seahawks to win the game. The consensus is around 56% in favour with the Panthers, and the bookies make the Seahawks the favourite in this matchup. For me it’s all about the quarterbacks, Wilson vs Newton  and I prefer Wilson. As they say, go with the inform team and that is the Seahawks (they narrowly missed last week in a close game) with the best defence and defence wins games. Who invented the spread, the bookies, and the way they see it, as a + or – 5.5 point game? The Seahawks have struggled to win against the spread in recent times going only 1-5-2 ATS in its last 8 games.  So, that probably means the Seahawks will win against the spread this time.  Whatever happens, I will enjoy the game!
