It's All About Greed

I think, my topic to write about today will be Greed, because it affects us all and can destroy you in an instant. Greed is one of the seven deadly sins, but we can all fall foul of this characteristic no matter who we are. If you want to enjoy the fruits of your labour then be careful of succumbing to greed.

There have been many times throughout my life where greed has taken hold of me and the positive progress that I had made up to that moment is suddenly washed away through greed. There are many examples of greed and it usually involves some sort of financial gain. You usually know when greed has taken hold and at that moment you need to step back and think before taking action. And, I mean think and don’t succumb to greed because usually you will end up on the losing side.
Some of the most successful investors will tell you that avoiding greed is one way to keeping the shirt on your back and a profit in the bank. Remember that until you bank your profits in the stock market you haven’t made a profit.

Another example is getting to a final table playing poker only to let greed and the lack of patience destroy your chances of winning. Until you have mastered the art of patience and can push greed out of your mind the chances of you winning and enjoying the game are minimal.

The Economic Triangle of Europe, China, and America

The global recession that is now about to show its hand started when Germany insisted on austerity for most of Europe more than three years ago. In a sense, Germany shot itself in the foot by insisting on this austerity policy for Europe which caused a slowdown in demand not just in Europe, but also in China. Its taken about three years of depressed demand to fully show up in China’s economy but now it has taken hold with many ghost towns where literally every factory is deserted and unfinished building projects resemble some sort of nuclear accident. What people fail to understand is the level of unemployment is rising in China and there is no state aid and the Chinese are natural savers and not spenders, so the move to a consumer led economy will be hard to achieve given these facts.

With many American companies relying on trade with China and Europe the feedback loop equally affects the American economy which hadn’t really recovered from the 2008 financial  crisis with many Americans on low wages and unable to spend. The commodities downturn which is ultimately dependent on demand has been savage and affects many emerging economies again adding to weak demand for export led economies such as Germany and so the feedback loop feeds the global recession.

With negative interest rates in Europe and Japan this shows that these policies are not working and the only reasonable policy is to spend money on infrastructure and increase the level of wages for the low paid to a living wage and watch as their respective economies grow. Without this type of policy that serves the greatest majority (the low paid) and interest rates between 2 and 4% we will have more unrealistic asset bubbles that will only create a greater inequality in society and lead eventually to a breakdown of social cohesion.

I believe governments around the world can avoid the worst of a global recession by seizing the moment by spending money on new innovation and technology that provides solutions to climate change such as Solar Power Stations, All Electric Vehicles, Wind and Wave Power, and Environmental Schemes to Clean up Pollution.

It doesn’t make any sense for countries such as Brazil to be spending billions on hosting the Olympics yet they pour raw sewage into the sea.

What are the Tipping Points? The Coming Environmental Apocalypse

The short answer is: We don’t know. The environmental changes and the rise of more intense weather events are now more apparent to everyone on this planet, it’s only a few vested interests which denies the problem.

If people think the recent agreement at the COP2015 Climate Change sparks a feeling of ‘everything will be alright’ are living on a different planet. We don’t have to the middle of this century to limit a 2 degree increase in global average temperatures. Look around the world, the tipping points have probably already happened. The chain reaction of events as the temperature increases in different parts of the world has unknown consequences that are too unpredictable to be modelled to any degree of certainty. People need to get round to thinking completely differently, otherwise, we may have fewer years than you think to stabilise the planet.

When people have to walk around Beijing (Capital of China) with face masks everyday just so they can breathe tells the stark reality of ignoring climate change and just as important the pollution which has a direct effect on everyone. If you want to burn coal (we should use the resource because it’s no good underground) then, why not, as long as, you fit chimney scrubber technology (This takes out the harmful particles and absorbs the CO2 emissions from the power stations) then, this waste can be recycled and the people can then breathe again without the need for face masks.

Just think the future is; electric vehicles (no waste technology (NWT)) and your problems are solved more or less overnight. Why do you think Volkswagen had a problem with its cars? We can’t continue to pollute the atmosphere and if you can’t breathe, then, what is the point of driving a petrol or diesel car when the future is now and that’s electric cars. Just think; if the invention of the combustion engine had never happened, perhaps, we would have had a cleaner environment and oil would have been a lightly used product to grease the blades of a turbine?

One example of ignoring climate change is the following: The floods that we were told were once in a hundred year events are now more like every other year and happening all over the world.

The choice is: We need to move to non-waste thinking; electric cars, solar power stations, solar technology, wind and wave power, and more innovation. Now, do you get the picture ~ the future is now; we can’t wait until they’ve sold every last barrel of oil, otherwise, your children are going to inherit a toilet. Just remember, if you don’t think you’re breathing in pollution, then, try not picking your nose at night! The long term effects of breathing in all this pollution is anyone’s guess.

The Cipher War

“If you do not expect it, you will not find the unexpected, for it is hard to find and difficult.” (Padmanabhan & Tuzhilin, 1999)

Currently, the world is in a race to outmaneuver the competition in the cipher war. Let me explain:  Governments and business organizations are busy trying to steal a march on their competitors by any means possible. Literally, the streets are paved with gold and the youth of today are at the steps of a new era in cross-data referencing. Yes, that’s right, not cross-dressing that’s an entirely different subject.

Today's new pirates are cross-referencing your personal data and you are being profiled like a digital watch, only, you are unaware of much of this activity in cyberspace. But, the reality is it's happening right now!

Big business organizations have huge databases of personal data that can be cross-referenced with numerous other databases, thereby, creating new profiling. Consider: How supermarkets with their loyalty cards work they hold huge amounts of data on your buying habits.

Useful information to the right people, well, the governments of this world are on the same page, if they have access legally or otherwise, to this personal information they want now?

Yes, folks, the cipher war is as real as it gets. It’s happening right now! Here is how it works ~ suddenly you’re not the D.I.Y male who drinks reasonably large amounts of their favorite beverage on an average weekend. Now, you have suddenly started purchasing large amounts of sulphuric acid (and you’re not a plumber) in the past few weeks or even days and you have suddenly triggered a database somewhere and become a person of interest (POI) and a profile is generated. Do you get the picture?

Like it or not we all have profile numbers. This is the cipher war, the war of artificial intelligence (AI) controlling and generating access to huge quantities of personal data. Some of this data is naturally encrypted and some are not. It must be like a minefield, literally, anywhere you step these trolls (robots or bots) will have found your Internet footprint, and so on and on. Now, do you get the picture?

Don’t be alarmed, because it’s happening whether you use the Internet or not. Think about it? Every time you use your credit or debit card you generate data on a database somewhere and your profile is being simultaneously …….. . updated. The Quest for Artificial Intelligence Click Here

The Million Dollar Question ( NFL Sunday Football Comic Diary) Week 6

The Bookshop Guru

The Carolina Panthers face the Seattle Seahawks  in Sunday’s live game. I fancy the Seahawks to win the game. The consensus is around 56% in favour with the Panthers, and the bookies make the Seahawks the favourite in this matchup. For me it’s all about the quarterbacks, Wilson vs Newton  and I prefer Wilson. As they say, go with the inform team and that is the Seahawks (they narrowly missed last week in a close game) with the best defence and defence wins games. Who invented the spread, the bookies, and the way they see it, as a + or – 5.5 point game? The Seahawks have struggled to win against the spread in recent times going only 1-5-2 ATS in its last 8 games.  So, that probably means the Seahawks will win against the spread this time.  Whatever happens, I will enjoy the game!
