How Robotic Are You?

Do you change your habits? What I mean is take the following scenario: Do you always do your food shopping on the same day (say a Friday evening after work) of the week? These patterns of behaviour almost become robotic and predictable and after a while determine your whole life to some extent. Inasmuch as your creative side of life is being pigeon holed and held back because you have allowed yourself to become robotic and zombie like.

Why is this important, well, consider this: If you follow the same steps everyday then you are no more than a biological zombie and you are more than likely receptive to whatever propaganda or sublimely message that is being broadcast through the ‘gogglebox’ that you are watching (from the same seat in your home, I imagine). You are not only just another couch potato that is being turned into mash, but you are also a predictable vegetable.

I would also guess that you dream about the ‘American dream’ or would like to, so you probably do the lottery every week in the vain hope that lady luck will strike and not realising that the government sponsor these lotteries as opium for ‘the hoi polloi’ as a means of keeping people in hope.

The more predictable you become the more robotic you become and less likely to ever question what is really happening in the world around you and so be able to form a new understanding based on facts and evidence. It is then that the ‘status quo’ is revealed to be challenged and not spoon feed for you to consume. My grandfather would always say, “Don’t believe everything you read in newspapers, you have to read between the lines.” What my grandfather meant was seek out the truth don’t rely on other people’s assumptions because invariable they are wrong. And always question the propaganda that your government is selling.

Are you listening,  what are you dreaming?

Do You Believe in Angels? The Revelation

The Bookshop Guru

An angel can illuminate the thought and mind of man by strengthening the power of vision,” by St Thomas Aquinas.

‘I don’t know if I believe in Heaven, but I do believe in angles,’ these words I have said to others many times. Do you believe in angels? I guess you’re thinking, what is this guy on about, is he completely mad, has he lost the plot, well, no, let me explain?

Apparently, around sixty percent of the American population believe so. That is quite an amazing fact. Now, if you are a non believer then perhaps you are psychic and know the truth? We should always remember that the truth never lies only people do.

Are there angels, and do they enter our lives when we don’t realise it? I have often felt this is so, because there have been many occasions when looking back at events that leads me to this view. I don't believe in the classical view that they appear always with wings as portrayed in renaissance art. Our image of angels is very much misaligned due to the way art and artists have fashioned and idolised them over the centuries.

Robbie Williams - Angels

Many of us at some time in our lives experience things that often lead us to believe that perhaps an angel is looking after us. Our guarding angel is there somewhere or at least some of us believe so.

There are those that say, 'to see is to believe.' I believe we don’t see everything for what it is sometimes. Whether you believe in angels or not, there are many experiences we can have where belief is more important than seeing. I believe there have been many occasions where angels have entered my life when we ask the questions true to our heart, inasmuch, as messengers to guide a path, but it’s still up to us how we make our destiny.

We Live in a Paradox Called Space and Time

The Bookshop Guru

We live in a paradox as expressed in “The Paradox of Our Age,” by the 14th Dalai Lama; it’s a message that shows the contradiction of how our modern society survives. There are more technological communication systems but less socialisation. We are more isolated then if we were living in a cave, less able to communicate with each other than the first few grunts of Neolithic cave men. Our hovels have become bigger but at the expense of smaller and more dispersed families. We have gained more degrees and knowledge, yet have less sense to see the wisdom of others. We have more choice than at any other time in our history. Yet, we still want more the circle is never complete.

The Thief of Inner Sex: The Innocence of Love

The Bookshop Guru

There was no trust to break in our love, we were only young, not yet old enough to make promises we couldn't keep. But still that love shone like a bright candle between us, for there was something of magic glue that kept us together, sweetness of honey, a purity of love. On the last day we had together, we said our goodbyes, and I can remember Karen’s words she said to me, ‘goodbye Tony, I hope we meet again.’ A sweet kiss touched our lips, and love's shadow was gone. I’d bid farewell to a love I could trust, and hoped it would come ashore again.

Which Came First, Intelligence or Language?

The Bookshop Guru

Which came first, intelligence or language is the million dollar question and answer? The first hominid to walk upright plays a part in intelligence, and, or, language abilities, otherwise, other animals would have evolved intelligence, and we can define intelligence as the making of tools a precognitive choice of thinking ahead. You would then assume that language just developed from simple body language signs to vocal sounds eventually forming words that everyone in their community understood.

The spark of intelligence came when our ancestor went from just another hominid walking around 1.2 million years ago, to a human being the first time they started making tools. The process of thinking ahead was the dawn of man. But, why us, we are just another animal in the natural world? Essentially, nature took a divergent path never before seen in Darwin’s theory of evolution. So, why should this be, we are just an animal that we have decided to use the almighty word of “human” to describe our species?

Natural selection is based on selective and adaptive gene inheritance over time, a lot of time. Intelligence is alien to Darwin’s theory of evolution because intelligence exists outside the domain of nature (Natural Selection). Forget, about finding the missing links; concentrate on the logic of my argument. In simple terms, 1.2 million years ago our species started making a tool, now, that requires precognitive planning, and that is intelligence. But, this contradicts Darwin’s theory of evolution because it’s totally divergent for intelligence to emerge through natural selection; otherwise, it would occur randomly distributed throughout the animal kingdom. Time is linear and intelligence is spatial. That is probably why at the quantum level of physics an electron can be measured as being in two places at the same time seemingly alien to the general laws of physics.

From the Coma the Wait is Over

The Bookshop Guru

The Seventh Seal is Open

The tree of life is a circle so said the prophets of Isaiah and all those who followed the way of Tao because all life has an end called the circle of life. From whence you came so shall ye return said God. So break or crack the code that has been hidden in the true Bible "the first book" or what us programmers call “the code or the book" and regarded as the supreme code book ever written. This is true because I have already revealed one secret to you, it's now your turn. Every word and every sentence has more than one meaning the true meaning has been hidden from you until now.

Jesus spoke with a message using parables. The butterfly and bee exist little without each other in the land of milk and honey. Your conscience is considered by many philosophers to be God’s gift. You see we all know in our conscience what is good and bad. There are no excuses.

The Incredible Story About the Diving Bell and the Butterfly

The Bookshop Guru

Book review of "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly" by Jean-Dominique Bauby

Have you ever heard the incredible story about The Diving Bell and the Butterfly? It’s a true story written by Jean-Dominique Bauby; it captured my imagination and made me think long and hard about what I was doing with my life. I first heard about the story really by chance, I was flicking through the TV channels one night and I came across this documentary film which recalls the life of Jean-Dominique Bauby, who was once the editor of the fashionable French magazine Elle.

At first, I didn’t know if I would like to watch a film about someone who was so severely disabled. Honestly, we all have the urge sometimes not to look at things we don’t want to think about, we would rather think about something else instead. We all do it, look the other way, afraid maybe that somehow this might happen to us. Well, I persevered and enjoyed the love of life the film gave me, even though Jean-Dominique Bauby was the soul that life had dealt such a cruel twist.

The film was a portrait memoir of the book The Diving Bell and the Butterfly that was written solely by Jean-Dominique Bauby blinking his left eye lid. Suffering at the age of 43 a massive stroke Bauby was left paralysed and speechless apart from the ability to use his left eye for communication.

By using ESA, a technique that uses the frequency of letters of the French language Bauby was able to dictate words, sentences and eventually the book with the aid of his editor. Every word counts in this book, you know that Bauby’s effort was enormous, never lingering always with purpose.

That’s why I say ‘Live the dream,’ don’t tell me you don’t have the time, we all have the same twenty four hours. Although Bauby’s book is a memoir of his life, it reminds me how little time we have and how precious our lives are. Each one counts, and to live our dreams, and hold life itself dear to our hearts. Jean-Dominique Bauby died of a heart attack on March 9th 1997 two days after the book was published in France.
Original Art by Anthony Fox
I can only say go out and read this book and learn how a man coped within a shell, living the suffocation of a diving bell existence and at the same time releasing the butterflies of his imagination to the world.

So I say ’live the dream,’ and go out and do whatever it is you want from life. Let your mind be free to dream and in those dreams that may come, do not say, I have no time, for we all have the same time the same twenty four hours. So remember there’s an old saying, “It’s a fool that never reads a book.” As I turn another corner in my life.

Are you listening,  what are you dreaming?
