Short Story ~ 'The Zombie Has Cometh' (Part 2)

That morning, global news broadcasts were speculating on the size of the object hitting the earth and why the authorities hadn’t given a warning even though the suspected asteroid had landed in an uninhabited region of the ‘Gobi’ desert. The nearest town or village was reported to be approximately 14o kilometers from the suspected debris area.  The nearest village to the suspected landing was named after a granddaughter of the prophet Mohammed.

The village had only a sparse and somewhat nomadic population according to the C.I.A. file displayed on Frank Santanoli’s computer screen. As Frank stroked his bald head and noted the information on the computer screen his commander was on the phone wanting an update.

“What have you got, Santanoli?” Frank was busy compiling his thoughts before revealing them to his senior commander his answer. He was still puzzled at what the data on his computer screen was showing. “I’m not sure, boss…”

“What do you mean?” asked Michael Stubbs the section chief of the C.I.A (Central Intelligence Agency) based at Langley, Virginia over the secure phone line.

“It landed approximately 140 kilometers from a village called Ayisha, but, I think, we have a problem, either with the source data or another Unidentified Flying Object (UFO) has just entered our airspace and landed without clearance and notification,” Frank remarked candidly.

“Well, as soon as you know the better…you better get out there and find out what landed. Remember, this is a need-to-know mission with level one clearance.” Stubbs was quick to terminate the call, as he had other assholes waiting to speak to him, which was his view of most of his staff that were quick to judge him, but most never had the balls in front of their commander to put their money where their mouth was. It was the same subordinates who were waiting to speak to him on other phone lines as he sat observing the scene from the comfort of his chauffeur-driven vehicle. His black limousine was carefully making its way through the rush hour traffic as it made its way to the White House along ‘Patriot’s Avenue’ renamed after the defeat of the enemies of the United States during the years fighting terrorism. Apart from the rain and the noise of the traffic, the air-conditioned interior provided a comfort Michael Stubbs had gotten used to. ‘Power corrupts, but without it, there is no light,’ he used to say to himself and others when the occasion permitted.

***
The overnight flight from Langley Air Force Base to Mongolia allowed Frank Santanoli time to consider his options. The local Mongolian operative was at Chinggis Khaan International Airport to greet Frank as he departed the CIA corporate jet.

“Hope you had a pleasant journey, Mr. Santanoli?”

Frank already knew everything to know about the local asset. He had already read the file on the local CIA operative at Langley before leaving. “Yes, glad you pulled the right strings with the military here, Armed,” Frank said as they shook hands.

“Have Langley briefed you?”

“No. Only that you requested a helicopter.”

“Good. We are going as they say asteroid hunting.”

“The helicopter is over there, ready and waiting,” Armed remarked as he pointed out the helicopter on the far side of the airport.

“How far is the village called Ayisha from here and also the suspected debris area from the asteroid that came down?” Frank already knew the distance he just wanted to test Armed on his skills of preparedness.

“About an hour to Ayisha, and then another hour perhaps, depending on weather conditions. The helicopter is under military control, so we don’t have a say on that score.”

“You know this village then?”

“Yes, it’s famous for many reasons,” Armed replied.

“No time to waste, let’s get going.”

***
“Commander, there’s an aircraft approaching.”

Iron Smart could see the aircraft on its defense system. The alien spacecraft’s automated computer system was already locked on and ready to take offensive action if it needed to.

“We are protected with our shield and cloaked invisible to their technology,” Iron Smart said to his second-in-command Shogi.

“We will see what they do.”

***
The helicopter flew past the alien spacecraft several times as it circled the area before landing in a clearing beside a sand dune.

“According to my GPS coordinates we are in the exact area where the fallout from the asteroid hit,” Frank remarked to Armed.

As Frank and Armed searched the area they could find no debris from an asteroid, perhaps, the computer data was wrong, Frank thought.

“Are we really looking for the remains of an asteroid?” asked Armed.

“I was wondering when you were going to ask,” Frank replied.

“No. A UFO crashed here somewhere or it landed. Well, that’s what our computer tracking told us.”

“How do you know it was a UFO?” asked Armed.

“Well, asteroids don’t slow down.”

Short Story ~ 'The Zombie Has Cometh'

The Bookshop Guru

Turn off the light and take a deep breath, it took thousands of years before humanity would know the secret that had been hidden for so long, but the time had come for the world to know. The word ‘Zombie’ was not just a fictional characterization in a Hollywood film or book, but a reality only ‘Iron Smart’ knew, an artificially intelligent robot sent to earth on a final mission.

“We are entering the planet’s gravity wave”

As the alien craft slowed and entered the earth’s upper atmosphere, the craft immediately began searching the terrain for a suitable landing.  The craft’s internal computer system had selected a remote part of the ‘Gobi’ desert.

“Commander, we have safely landed and deployed the shield.”

Meanwhile, Aaron was just waking up from a bad dream as the sun began to rise. It was something his friend Jim had said to him the night before at the observatory, just think he said, “If alien craft gets to us before we get to them their technology would be ‘worlds apart’ and could be deadly.”

Later that morning, Professor Aaron Mikovitz and  Jim were busy checking the overnight email alerts sent by various observatories from around the world that were busy watching the night sky for near-earth objects as part of the Global Eyes project set up by various governments, to provide an early warning system from asteroids and comets colliding with Earth.

“Take a look at this, Aaron.”
As Aaron read the message, he remembered his dream again.

“This shows it came down in the ‘Gobi’ desert, approximately 3.30 am local time. We have not had any damage or casualty reports from this area; so, it’s more than likely another one of those upper atmospheric air explosions.”

“Don’t be quick to jump to assumptions, Jim. Remember, we are scientists who follow the evidence that leads us to the truth. Whatever that may be?”

“That’s strange….”

“What’s strange? Don’t keep it to yourself, Aaron.”

As Aaron pulled up a series of reports from the computer screen; it made no sense to him or Jim. They were both puzzled at what they saw on their computer screens.

“It entered our atmosphere but left no chemical trace, it must be a malfunction of the data recovery systems,” Jim said as he tried to check other computer data systems on his computer terminal to verify the information.

“If that asteroid disintegrated in the Gobi, it must be there,” Aaron said, as he checked and rechecked the data. “Asteroids don’t do that!”

Jim asked, perplexed at Aaron’s statement, “What don’t they do?”

The Million Dollar Question and Answer ( NFL Sunday Football Comic Diary) Week 9

The Bookshop Guru

The Arizona Cardinals face Dallas Cowboys in Sunday’s live match. I fancy the Cowboys to win the game. The consensus are with the Cardinals, but I am not, they see the possibly absence of Romo as the best chance of beating the Cowboys at home. Who invented the spread, the bookies, and the way they see it, as a + or - 2.5 game? So, that probably means a tight game, so make your choice.  I also fancy going over on the total point line, because most of the recent matchups between these sides have been over. Home team is 8-1 ATS in their last 9 meetings. Whatever happens, I will enjoy the game!

The Tale of the Butterfly and the Bee

The Bookshop Guru

Listen to the beautiful Chinese song as you read.

It was a beautiful day you could not help but feel good about life. I sat upon a hill overlooking the Sussex Downs. Able to appreciate the beauty of nature, the summer sun, and a gentle cool breeze, I relaxed and lay there thinking: I had been lucky to have made it this far in life.

As I made my way back to the car along a trail, I decided I would explore the nearby village. Walking down into the village, I saw an iron gate leading to a church, where much was overgrown with bramble along its path.

I could see a majestic old yew tree amongst the gravestones; it was massive, with many branches being supported by sturdy wood props. I would find out later, that the yew tree was over 1600 years old and still going strong.

The old yew was welcome shade from the summer sun as I gazed at the entrance to the church. The church was small and quaint, built from stone that had weathered countless storms, I thought. Apparently, some parts of the church were found to date back to the 12th century, I found out later.

Peering at the entrance to the church, I saw a darkened oak Norman-shaped door that had a beauty of its own; the door had an age to the wood, and you wondered what tales it could tell. Approaching the door that was beneath an open porch, I tried repeatedly to open it. Just as I was about to give up, the door opened if by magic, like a command open sesame.

Thinking: Someone had opened the door from the inside. I was shocked to see no one as I entered and saw the church was empty only one living soul, and that was me.

Strangely, I felt like someone wanted me to come in. Looking around the church, I was not spooked by the experience, but it did open my spiritual mind. It was then that I saw the butterfly and the bee. A beautiful stained glass window with the words of Jesus written upon it from the gospel of Thomas, Raise the stone, and thou will find me; cleave the wood, and there I am.

Many times, I have been back to the church that caught my imagination and gave me a feeling everything would be alright. Somehow, it was mystical and spiritual at the same time. Several months later, even in my darkest moments, I had the inspiration to paint a picture of the butterfly and bee stained glass window. And did I pray? Yes, I did.

Kamikaze Holiday in Thailand. Tony Blue Scores Again?

The Bookshop Guru

I recently had an amazing and exciting holiday in the land of the smile, and that is Thailand.  I started my holiday in Bangkok and spent half my time there before moving down south to the coast.

In Bangkok I soon realized that being stuck in a taxi car at the traffic lights which seemed forever, and I could almost write a dissertation it takes to move forward at certain times of the day and night.

They say the traffic is bad in London, but try it in Bangkok. I decided in the end to go what I called “ Kamikaze’ that is ride pillion on a motor bike taxi which is a lot faster if not exciting because these guys and girls get you there by going through any gap between cars, trucks and buses and you name it they did it. But I would advise  it’s not for the faint hearted or anyone with a weak ticker. Of course being single and a dog without a lead I sampled fully the night life.

Boy Oh Boy, what a life – I would say try it before you criticize it. I know I’ve had more pussy then Rooney even before I got to Bangkok and that’s official and the Truth Never Lies. And that was just the icing on the cake. One thing I would say about Thailand is its people love to work and that means everyone from taxi drivers, sales assistants, bar girls and the whole working force. This love of working is not the same in England where people come from Europe and sponge on our welfare system just because they can, and we can’t afford it because we are bankrupt as a country, but they still come and open their big mouths.

The places to go in Bangkok are numerous and you can get good food from the street vendors who are always pleasant and not so in England where most of the time they are racist and don’t know what customer service means.

Soi Cowboy was a place I found by accident and it turned out to be a paradise of love for a single guy who is more of a dog on heat and has  less patience than most dogs on heat. The rest of the holiday I spent in Pattaya on the coast. Where purely by chance the first night I found myself in a Go – Go bar. I won’t tell you where - that’s a secret a secret I will keep to myself. But I will give you a clue it’s a street (soi) off the most famous street in Thailand called “ Walking Street’  In this street I found a GO –Go Bar which as I say I found purely by chance and I had to bypass many other go-go bars to get to it. It was especially worth it because I am a dog as I said before without a lead and I like it that way a stray.

The 2nd part of the Kamikaze holiday in Thailand I spent in what I would describe for a single guy is paradise. Anyhow I went into the Go- GO Bar and if I said it was like paradise well it was for a dog like me. I had three girls on my right and three girls on my left. Some girls were naked and some had no knickers on and others had not much else on either, OBTW I had also one on each knee and the girl I had fallen for was on the GO- GO bar dancing with clothes on. So you can guess what I night I had? OBTW I rang the bell more times than I can remember which means you buy every girl in the bar a drink for the princely sum of only about $30 dollars. I enjoyed the pleasure so why not hey? I felt like a football star and spent the next few nights frequenting the same Go- Go Bar.  The best experience of my dog life, as a single guy without a lead, and a dog with no limits of where or when I would love, Oh what a place. Go Kamikaze in Thailand!
