Short Story ~ 'The Zombie Has Cometh' (Part 2)

That morning, global news broadcasts were speculating on the size of the object hitting the earth and why the authorities hadn’t given a warning even though the suspected asteroid had landed in an uninhabited region of the ‘Gobi’ desert. The nearest town or village was reported to be approximately 14o kilometers from the suspected debris area.  The nearest village to the suspected landing was named after a granddaughter of the prophet Mohammed.

The village had only a sparse and somewhat nomadic population according to the C.I.A. file displayed on Frank Santanoli’s computer screen. As Frank stroked his bald head and noted the information on the computer screen his commander was on the phone wanting an update.

“What have you got, Santanoli?” Frank was busy compiling his thoughts before revealing them to his senior commander his answer. He was still puzzled at what the data on his computer screen was showing. “I’m not sure, boss…”

“What do you mean?” asked Michael Stubbs the section chief of the C.I.A (Central Intelligence Agency) based at Langley, Virginia over the secure phone line.

“It landed approximately 140 kilometers from a village called Ayisha, but, I think, we have a problem, either with the source data or another Unidentified Flying Object (UFO) has just entered our airspace and landed without clearance and notification,” Frank remarked candidly.

“Well, as soon as you know the better…you better get out there and find out what landed. Remember, this is a need-to-know mission with level one clearance.” Stubbs was quick to terminate the call, as he had other assholes waiting to speak to him, which was his view of most of his staff that were quick to judge him, but most never had the balls in front of their commander to put their money where their mouth was. It was the same subordinates who were waiting to speak to him on other phone lines as he sat observing the scene from the comfort of his chauffeur-driven vehicle. His black limousine was carefully making its way through the rush hour traffic as it made its way to the White House along ‘Patriot’s Avenue’ renamed after the defeat of the enemies of the United States during the years fighting terrorism. Apart from the rain and the noise of the traffic, the air-conditioned interior provided a comfort Michael Stubbs had gotten used to. ‘Power corrupts, but without it, there is no light,’ he used to say to himself and others when the occasion permitted.

The overnight flight from Langley Air Force Base to Mongolia allowed Frank Santanoli time to consider his options. The local Mongolian operative was at Chinggis Khaan International Airport to greet Frank as he departed the CIA corporate jet.

“Hope you had a pleasant journey, Mr. Santanoli?”

Frank already knew everything to know about the local asset. He had already read the file on the local CIA operative at Langley before leaving. “Yes, glad you pulled the right strings with the military here, Armed,” Frank said as they shook hands.

“Have Langley briefed you?”

“No. Only that you requested a helicopter.”

“Good. We are going as they say asteroid hunting.”

“The helicopter is over there, ready and waiting,” Armed remarked as he pointed out the helicopter on the far side of the airport.

“How far is the village called Ayisha from here and also the suspected debris area from the asteroid that came down?” Frank already knew the distance he just wanted to test Armed on his skills of preparedness.

“About an hour to Ayisha, and then another hour perhaps, depending on weather conditions. The helicopter is under military control, so we don’t have a say on that score.”

“You know this village then?”

“Yes, it’s famous for many reasons,” Armed replied.

“No time to waste, let’s get going.”

***
“Commander, there’s an aircraft approaching.”

Iron Smart could see the aircraft on its defense system. The alien spacecraft’s automated computer system was already locked on and ready to take offensive action if it needed to.

“We are protected with our shield and cloaked invisible to their technology,” Iron Smart said to his second-in-command Shogi.

“We will see what they do.”

***
The helicopter flew past the alien spacecraft several times as it circled the area before landing in a clearing beside a sand dune.

“According to my GPS coordinates we are in the exact area where the fallout from the asteroid hit,” Frank remarked to Armed.

As Frank and Armed searched the area they could find no debris from an asteroid, perhaps, the computer data was wrong, Frank thought.

“Are we really looking for the remains of an asteroid?” asked Armed.

“I was wondering when you were going to ask,” Frank replied.

“No. A UFO crashed here somewhere or it landed. Well, that’s what our computer tracking told us.”

“How do you know it was a UFO?” asked Armed.

“Well, asteroids don’t slow down.”

The Secret of Enlightenment

The search for enlightenment can take many different paths for the individual concerned, but in the end our progress through life should be with nature and not against it. Throughout history many great inspirational people have strived in their time to influence mankind to make the world a better place to live in. Some of the greatest advances in technology, medicine, and science have come about through the enlightenment of individuals who have said that they received their inspiration from their dreams or the practice of meditation.

Steve Jobs (Apple fame) said that he found the inspiration for the iPhone from the practice of meditation. There are many more examples where the subconscious has played a major role in illuminating the minds of great inventors. Why our subconscious mind acts in this way is a mystery, but then again so is the universe.

Currently, science cannot answer the mystery of our subconscious or indeed how thoughts are generated in the conscious mind. Philosophers over the centuries have pondered on the mystery of the subconscious and the conscious mind in an effort to rationalise human thought and its existence without much success. RenĂ© Descartes (philosopher, mathematician, and scientist) said, “cogito ergo sum,” translated into English: “I think, therefore I am,” which means if I doubted my existence than either someone else is doing the doubting or I exist. Why I Fade My Trades? The Comic Speaks

The Bookshop Guru

As the markets begin to tumble the euro/dollar on the Forex is up and down like a Yoyo. My strategy is at the very last second before I execute that trade, I “fade” my trades. In simple terms the opposite trade? Why, you ask? Well, the way our brain’s work, and in my case the analysis of previous trades shows the profitability. And, remember “you don't win on every trade” you win over time because of the increased profits of these trades.

Now, where is that mirror on the wall.  In a three horse race, now, that is different, and so on and on. The unlikeliness of an event happening is often the outcome. Just a thought.

Which Came First, Intelligence or Language?

The Bookshop Guru

Which came first, intelligence or language is the million dollar question and answer? The first hominid to walk upright plays a part in intelligence, and, or, language abilities, otherwise, other animals would have evolved intelligence, and we can define intelligence as the making of tools a precognitive choice of thinking ahead. You would then assume that language just developed from simple body language signs to vocal sounds eventually forming words that everyone in their community understood.

The spark of intelligence came when our ancestor went from just another hominid walking around 1.2 million years ago, to a human being the first time they started making tools. The process of thinking ahead was the dawn of man. But, why us, we are just another animal in the natural world? Essentially, nature took a divergent path never before seen in Darwin’s theory of evolution. So, why should this be, we are just an animal that we have decided to use the almighty word of “human” to describe our species?

Natural selection is based on selective and adaptive gene inheritance over time, a lot of time. Intelligence is alien to Darwin’s theory of evolution because intelligence exists outside the domain of nature (Natural Selection). Forget, about finding the missing links; concentrate on the logic of my argument. In simple terms, 1.2 million years ago our species started making a tool, now, that requires precognitive planning, and that is intelligence. But, this contradicts Darwin’s theory of evolution because it’s totally divergent for intelligence to emerge through natural selection; otherwise, it would occur randomly distributed throughout the animal kingdom. Time is linear and intelligence is spatial. That is probably why at the quantum level of physics an electron can be measured as being in two places at the same time seemingly alien to the general laws of physics.

The Biggest Apple iOS Blunder? Since, the Mouse Was Invented

The Bookshop Guru

Please help Apple, is there a Chinese software developer that can solve the biggest iOS blunder since the mouse was invented? Because the American Apple has turned sour, the American Apple software developers either have forgotten the plot or do not have the skills to solve the problem. And the problem is so fundamental that I believe Apple prefers to hide behind a new shiny Apple iPhone rather than fix the problem.

The revolution of the iPhone hinged on the touch innovation, yet, it failed to follow the basic computer command of highlight and delete. If iPhone users have to spend their precious time individually deleting email because some moron or morons at Apple forgot to think, than perhaps they could be better employed picking apples on granny’s farm.  Read my previous article on this problem here.

Currently, I am writing my third book, and this time it’s a novel. I am about halfway through writing and hope to finish in the next few months, and so far I have enjoyed the experience. I have enjoyed being the voice of the characters and telling the story, hopefully using the Iceberg Theory to describe events. I have found it useful to set targets, especially for me because I am a lazy turd and often get side-tracked writing material for the three blog sites I maintain.

I like comedy, but it’s not always easy to write a creative story or article on a regular basis, but I do try. Take for example the short story – “Veni, Vidi, Vici: A Cautionary Tale at the C.I.A.” which I created to be treated as comedy, although some people perhaps would not see the funny side. Criticism in whatever shape it manifests itself is not easy to deal with, but who gives a shit, right!
