What are the Tipping Points? The Coming Environmental Apocalypse

The short answer is: We don’t know. The environmental changes and the rise of more intense weather events are now more apparent to everyone on this planet, it’s only a few vested interests which denies the problem.

If people think the recent agreement at the COP2015 Climate Change sparks a feeling of ‘everything will be alright’ are living on a different planet. We don’t have to the middle of this century to limit a 2 degree increase in global average temperatures. Look around the world, the tipping points have probably already happened. The chain reaction of events as the temperature increases in different parts of the world has unknown consequences that are too unpredictable to be modelled to any degree of certainty. People need to get round to thinking completely differently, otherwise, we may have fewer years than you think to stabilise the planet.

When people have to walk around Beijing (Capital of China) with face masks everyday just so they can breathe tells the stark reality of ignoring climate change and just as important the pollution which has a direct effect on everyone. If you want to burn coal (we should use the resource because it’s no good underground) then, why not, as long as, you fit chimney scrubber technology (This takes out the harmful particles and absorbs the CO2 emissions from the power stations) then, this waste can be recycled and the people can then breathe again without the need for face masks.

Just think the future is; electric vehicles (no waste technology (NWT)) and your problems are solved more or less overnight. Why do you think Volkswagen had a problem with its cars? We can’t continue to pollute the atmosphere and if you can’t breathe, then, what is the point of driving a petrol or diesel car when the future is now and that’s electric cars. Just think; if the invention of the combustion engine had never happened, perhaps, we would have had a cleaner environment and oil would have been a lightly used product to grease the blades of a turbine?

One example of ignoring climate change is the following: The floods that we were told were once in a hundred year events are now more like every other year and happening all over the world.

The choice is: We need to move to non-waste thinking; electric cars, solar power stations, solar technology, wind and wave power, and more innovation. Now, do you get the picture ~ the future is now; we can’t wait until they’ve sold every last barrel of oil, otherwise, your children are going to inherit a toilet. Just remember, if you don’t think you’re breathing in pollution, then, try not picking your nose at night! The long term effects of breathing in all this pollution is anyone’s guess.

How Robotic Are You?

Do you change your habits? What I mean is take the following scenario: Do you always do your food shopping on the same day (say a Friday evening after work) of the week? These patterns of behaviour almost become robotic and predictable and after a while determine your whole life to some extent. Inasmuch as your creative side of life is being pigeon holed and held back because you have allowed yourself to become robotic and zombie like.
Click Below and Listen

Why is this important, well, consider this: If you follow the same steps everyday then you are no more than a biological zombie and you are more than likely receptive to whatever propaganda or sublimely message that is being broadcast through the ‘gogglebox’ that you are watching (from the same seat in your home, I imagine). You are not only just another couch potato that is being turned into mash, but you are also a predictable vegetable.

I would also guess that you dream about the ‘American dream’ or would like to, so you probably do the lottery every week in the vain hope that lady luck will strike and not realising that the government sponsor these lotteries as opium for ‘the hoi polloi’ as a means of keeping people in hope.

The more predictable you become the more robotic you become and less likely to ever question what is really happening in the world around you and so be able to form a new understanding based on facts and evidence. It is then that the ‘status quo’ is revealed to be challenged and not spoon feed for you to consume. My grandfather would always say, “Don’t believe everything you read in newspapers, you have to read between the lines.” What my grandfather meant was seek out the truth don’t rely on other people’s assumptions because invariable they are wrong. And always question the propaganda that your government is selling.

The Chicken and the Egg Question. Have I Been Here Before? Déjà vu

The Bookshop Guru

Have you heard about the chicken and the egg question? It’s an age-old question and most people have heard about it and pondered the answer. It goes like this “Which came first the chicken or the egg?” Now you may be thinking there is no answer – you cannot have one without the other -and you are wrong.  The answer is neither. I could give you an analogy as an answer as Man came first it says it in Genesis in the Bible. The truth is without seed there is nothing. The male of a species carries the seed the female the eggs and without the seed there is nothing. You work it out. Someone or something has to play the part of the rooster.

BTW, Jesus Christ said it many times to paraphrase; what do get when you never throw seed into a field? Nothing!

Dead of Night - A Poem

The Bookshop Guru

Below is a poem I wrote some time ago which often reflects our time.

Dead of Night
Cruel acts of night pass by,
Families scatter.
Never to unite their blood spilled to mix in muddy pools.
A whistle in the wind,
Terror rules.
Unnatural times, an asylum of some.
Who torture with revenge without guilt.
Then in a passing second another life is lost.
Not counted just a casualty of chaos.
Time to stop this madness.
Before we ask where next.
A boy with a bullet screams out a killer in the dead of night.

Why Do So Many Students Fail? Read My Story

The Bookshop Guru

I devote a chapter in my book to: why students fail with explanation and examples so that you don’t fail?

Here is a list of stories included in “How to Pass a Degree with Confidence” they are not in any order, purely random.

To be or not to be

It’s never too late

We don't all wear the same shoes

We have all the time in the world

Sat there like a Cheshire cat

There’s a bit more meat on the bone

More stress than a chaining smoking nurse

The golden rule

How I got my T-Shirt

A girl came knocking on my window

Realise your potential it’s within you to succeed. Your success is not proportional to the effort you put in, that part is purely random.

I can win the lottery in a second, but spend a lifetime finding a cure for cancer. Which is more rewarding?

As Jesus said, “belief is everything.”

The book “How to Pass a Degree with Confidence” also includes the following:

A study guide including:  How to write your project or dissertation, exam preparation, how to research, time management, how to reference correctly, critical thinking, how to study, how to revise, a girl game knocking at my window, how to build confidence, the need to set goals, a student perspective, how to cope with stress, how to cope with meagre funds, score more goals than Casanova, top tips for university, and much more.

Readers' comments
"very well written and organized tutorials…its indeed a great help for beginners like me to keep up the interest and at the same time learn this important subject."

"Brilliant. One of the very best I have read. Well written, with style and intelligence. I have spent hours looking for erotica like this... ."

An interesting, innovative, and motivating self-help book on how to pass a university degree with confidence by providing not only the do’s and don’ts, but also an insightful and fascinating personal experience. It was written using the author’s experience gained as a student representative as well as the achievement of gaining an MSc and a BSc Honours degrees. Comprehensive and detailed information is provided, to help those individuals contemplating an undergraduate or a postgraduate degree visualise and achieve their goals.

Each chapter recalls a personal experience that helps to reinforce the academic topic. Every important academic aspect is covered to help you achieve what you want.

What makes us tick?

The Bookshop Guru

A book review of Blink by Malcolm Gladwell

What makes us tick? That’s what I was thinking when I chose to read this book. Malcolm Gladwell’s book is about ‘The power of thinking without thinking’ which delves into the psyche to explore how we make decisions. Gladwell uses vinaigrette to illustrate the different concepts discussed in the book.

Why we make instant decisions in the blink of an eye? Well, because ever since the evolution of man we have made instant decisions that govern life and death. Consider how we cross a busy road which goes back to when as cave man we had to cross the savannah without getting killed. You have to make thin-slice split second decisions, otherwise you’re road meat. The same applies then as it does today.

‘As humans we make the best least informed decisions,’ Gladwell refers to this as ‘thin-slicing’. Gladwell discusses how the tennis pro Vic Braden could instinctively know when a player was about to double fault. Gladwell states ‘those people with the clipboards were really good at making predictions. I think he should read ‘Future Babble’ where the opposite is true. Different stories are told to help reinforce the point, in my opinion, they do overstate the point. In any case, it doesn’t take much to tell a cat amongst a pack of dogs.

My grandfather said, ‘don’t believe what you read in the papers’ and what he meant was don’t take anything at face value which is what I’ve been doing most of my life. Gladwell concludes that we can learn to make better decisions by avoiding our subconscious mind with snap judgements. I think Gladwell misses the point. Snap judgements or decisions, call it what you like; it’s our bias that often rules our head not the fact that they are snap decisions or judgements.

Overall, the book is a good read with a mosaic of stories to keep you reading until you nod off.
